CODE OF ETHICS
Commitment to safety and well-being
I strive to create a safe physical and emotional environment for my client and myself before, during, and after the session. I pay attention to rigorous preparation (including health, mental and medication pre-screening) for the session, client’ s physical safety during the session, and support of the integration process after the session. I offer tools and share experiences and risks with the clients in the phases of preparation and integration of the experience. If another facilitator is involved, I ensure clear communication of clients needs, wishes and boundaries prior to the experience with them. I discuss the emergency protocol with a potential co-facilitator prior to the session.
Commitment to confidentiality and privacy
I ensure that client’ s personal information is stored safely, and I do not share it with a third party. The same applies to information about the facilitated process. When I discuss a client’s case and personal information as part of a professional consultation, continuing education, and/or (peer) supervision, I make sure to avoid revealing identifying information.
Commitment to informed consent and transparency
I inform my clients about the risks, benefits, and after effects of participating in a psychedelic experience. I only work with clients who have given informed consent. I will not give any medical advice, nor offer psychotherapeutic advice or services connected to the psychedelic experience as long as I have not completed an official psychotherapeutic training.
Commitment to professional and personal integrity and honesty
I only work with practices I have direct, personal, and repeated experience with, and I do not suggest to clients, or use with clients, practices, tools, or methods that I have not experienced myself. I am honest about my intentions, experiences and limitations, as well as about my values and about my personal and professional boundaries. I carry on regular practices to grow as a person and to ground myself in the present moment reality.
Commitment to the right relationship with the client
I strive for the right balance of protection, permission and connection in the relationship with clients. I reflect on power dynamics that might arise in connection to the client and to the work, and I reflect on my own motivations and triggers.
Commitment to responsible use of touch and upholding sexual
boundaries
I practice mindful care when touching clients. I set and adhere to strong boundaries in the use of touch based on my professional capacities and limitations, on my personal boundaries, and on the boundaries of the clients. These boundaries are always communicated beforehands and agreed upon. I do not engage in sexual touch and/or any sexual practices of any kind with a client, not even after our work together is concluded.
Commitment to diversity, inclusiveness and equity
I seek to respect the rights, dignity and integrity of my clients. I aspire to reflect on how my personal history, world view, understanding of psychedelic experiences, race, sex, gender, sexual orientation, political views, religious or spiritual views, and lived experiences could influence how I work with the clients. I acknowledge and respect the differences between me and the client in these categories.
Commitment to uphold client’ s autonomy and inner healing capacity
I consciously practice professional non-doing and non-interference. I practice self-management and prioritize following the client’s process. I reflect on the question ‘Who is this for?’ in regards to chosen practices, actions, and responses emerging in the process. I aspire to trust a clients’ inner knowing and support clients to draw meaningful insights for themselves.
Commitment to accountability and responsibility for my actions
I ask others to hold me accountable to my goal of being a practitioner with ethical behavior and a right relationship with my clients. I support others in the same endeavor. I offer my clients a protocol for reporting to an independent person/organization in case of my own ethical misconduct.
Commitment to continuous professional development and to peer
support of other practitioners
I strive to continuously develop and monitor my professional and/or vocational skills and ethical awareness. I aspire to be aware of relevant cultural and scientific developments and insights pertaining to psychedelics, and seek to translate these developments and insights into my practices. I offer and receive peer support on a continuous basis and I create and maintain professional relationships and communities/networks of practice.
